I removed all the smog stuff on my 83 F150 (300 I-6, no computer). Prior to doing this, I had the timing set forward about 3-4 degrees. Now, with the smog stuff removed, the truck keeps dying out. As long as you keep feeding it the gas, it keeps going. Is this because the timing was advanced prior to removing the smog stuff? Will adjusting the timing back a few degrees help? Your input is appreciated.
Thanks!

It really acts like a vacuum leak, but I am sure I have everything plugged. Unless one of the vacuum caps has a hole in it. For an EGR block-off plate, I removed the valve portion from the base. I then unscrewed the cap from the base and removed the pintle. I had the hole in the cap welded shut. The EGR valve was new (about a year ago) as was the gasket. Any chance it could be leaking from the gasket or the cap on the EGR base?
Problerm diagnosed, I think! I made an EGR block-off plate utilizing the base of the EGR valve. I did not seal the two holes on the back side of the plate, creating an open loop. I think this is causing it to run rich as if the EGR was stuck on. I hope this is the problem.
This may help, but i had a vacuum leak that I chased and chased and chased for about a month before i finally found it.
On the vacuum tree that threads into the intake there was a vacuum port that pointed down and backwards that there was no way to see from the top of the truck unless you were looking for it.
It orignally ran something emissions-wise on my truck, so I'm just wondering if you disconnected something from that tree and forgot to cap it or didn't see it to cap it.
