Modified used X's

I am still researching buying a diesel X (leaning towards '05). Should I avoid ones with modifications? Is there anything I should look at specifically or ask specifically if I do test drive one with modifications?

I wouldn't avoid a Excursion with mods. It depends all on if the previous owner took care of it. (engine oil, trans oil, etc). If he took care of it i would by it. If he didn't i wouldn't buy it.

If you are going after an '05 get one built after 2/1/05. Sometime in Jan '05 ford stopped putting the '04 engines in the '05 X's. Might as well have the latest and greatest.

Quite true, alot of '05 owners reported fewer problems with their 6.0. If there are mods, make sure there were guages to make sure nothing got burnt up or overworked. Also, have an OASIS report run to see if oil changes and other maintenance were current. Otherwise, just drive it and if it runs, go for it. Just make sure you get ESP in case things aren't initially as they seem. In case you're not sure about a warranty, read this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ml#post3407541

Thanks, I will consider an ESP if I buy from a dealer.
Spring, TX, nice to meet you, neighbor!

just some food for thought!! modified vehicle's will not fall under esp--or the factory warranty either if the vehicle would still be applicable
