I am a gasoline person myself, but must say the diesels are nice I just don't pull enough to warrent the extra expense of a diesel. I do have a question about the turbos. I could not beleive ford found enough room to stuff another turbo under the hood, so my question is why not put them under the bed of the truck? I have seen aftermarket kits for cars that mount the turbos behind the rear axle, about 1pound of boost is lost but the intercooler efficiancy is much higher not to mention the reduction in underhood temps which would be of great help to all the electronics on these new diesels. any comments.
It would be cool and alot more room.... but man that could possibly be a tubing nightmare plus the turbo's need oil to get to them... would be cool though..

The turbos are about 4" in diameter, back to back, mounted transversely (fender to fender). As far as heat, this motor in some areas, thrives on heat. Then again, it has more coolers involved to dissipate heat.
I don't think the plumbing would be that bad. the exhaust is there already, all you would have then is the intake from the turbos to the intercooler. Some stainless braided oil lines and presto. If I remember correctly the intercooler efficiancy went up to like 98%.
Yeah but with the turbos under the truck, you now have to take into account road debris, salt, ect. Its a good idea for tight areas, but its more acceptable to the elements.
turbos under a vehicle is not very practical due to everything. these vehicles have to meet 50 state requirements when coming from a dealer. that means if you have a truck in sc it will last in california, or anywhere else. alot of r&d is done on vehicles nowadays to try to eliminate simple issues. besides, i think the turbos fit rather nicely up top.
The new turbo placement increases the combustion efficiency sufficiently that there are no longer any particles, so a particulate filter will no longer be necessary. Also, MPG goes up about 34%. It's a secret being held by the FORD Administration, it's coming out in 2010 Model Year.

not to be rude, but these are Super Duty trucks for a reason.... not rice burners.. it's not practicle, plus as stated earlier, salt sand and rock hitting it doing 70 MPH down the road.. and IMO, that turbo gets dam hot... so when rain water or a flooded intersection hits the hot turbo, it's going to thermo shock the casing... which means it could crack it, and then your out a turbo... it's just not practical for the vehicle or the application... under the hood is a perfect place... other then its crammed in there with everything else.. again.. wasn't being smart, just realistic..
