98 explorer repairs
I just bought a used 98 explorer up here in fairbanks alaska
The vehicle came up from anchorage so it doesnt really have the heaters most vehicles up here have, im gonna be installing a 100w batter heater and a 75w external oil pan heating pad.
When I install the oil pan pad, should I use high temp RTV silocone, and how much should I use?
also i was just going to place the battery heating pad underneth the battery, it doesnt need to be glued thou does it?
any other advice for making sure my truck starts nicely in the -40 below weather we have right now
p.s. ive already changed to a synthetic 5w30 oil, and the coolant is showin its good to a -60 on the tester..
thx
Sounds like it gets a little 'chilly' there....
I don't think the battery heater would need to be glued. Are you able to get the battery secured back in place with the heater under it? If so, I would think it will be OK.
I'm not familiar with the oil pan heater, so I can't help there, but I'm sure someone will jump in that knows about them.
Glad to have you and I hope you get it all done! I've been in Edmonton< AB, CA when it was -40 to -50 F, so I know how chilly that is...
the hayes manual makes it sound like its not that difficult.. so I guess ill find out.
Ill also take pictures of my progress and post them if anyone ever needs to do the same
ill fill you guys in more tomorow...
p.s. if you have any advice on how to get it out of the whole let me know
