Started and stopped starting

hey, anyone think they could help me figure this one out?

got the truck running today after only about 2 or 3 hours of charging and re-charging an older battery that i had in the garage and a quick run down to the store to grab a new fuel filter and it fired up after a few ignition primes. the fuel that drained out of the old filter was litterally black. ran it on and off a few times after some rough idling made it stall, tried once more and had no more signs of electrical . any suggestions? hopefully just bad terminal cables? im takin a run down to the store again tomorrow afternoon to grab some new sparkies so if anyone knows why im not getting electrical let me know soon so i know what to get, thanks boys, ps, project trucks are fun. WOOOO!!!
im hoping that new terminal cables will get my electrical back, its acting as though theres no battery in the truck at all

If batteries are dead that will probably be the problem, check the cables for corrosion on both ends, check the whole length of the cables insulation, check grounds also. On old batteries you might as well buy a new one because if the battery is dry inside and you are trying to charge it, you could have and exploding battery eventually. If there is no or very little water for the electricity to go through the battery will not charge properly if at all. Do that for starters. If its doin WEIRD S*** = BAD GROUNDS

If you the vehicle running, take a voltmeter and check the battery voltage. If the truck is charging, it will have around 14 volts on the battery.
