Well, I want to do the unusual it seems. I have a 2wd and I'd like to upgrade the rear springs. I've read about 25 posts and they all deal with 4wd trucks, so I'm not entirely clear if B codes are even right for my rig.
My current X sags like most others, but its almost embarrasing to tow the Boy Scout trailer with my 3/4 ton X because of how low the back end is. Its just a little 10' enclosed trailer with about 2500lbs in it loaded.
I was thinking about getting air bags, but that won't really solve the ride height without being pumped up pretty substantially. I get the feeling that the B Code rear springs provide a much better ride for the X compared to stock, and will raise the rear about 1.75" (again all gather from posts on 4x4 trucks).
If you look in my gallery you'll see the difference in ride height once I installed a set of Add-a-leafs. They were from the Super Duty 6" Rancho lift kit. Most guys don't use the additional springs but instead use blocks. Because of that the 4WD shop I went to had quite a few "laying around". I got them installed for about $150.
It is a great upgrade. It stengthens the leaf pack which helps prevent sway, rear wheel steering and axle wrap.
Don't quote me on this but...I think each was rated for 600lbs. So you could say I added 1200lbs of capacity to the springs.
Air Lifts or Ride Rites are an alternative. Some folks are leary of them but they are trouble free. They provide a degree of roll control when independantly plumbed, as recommended. They are load adjustable, more easilly so when installed with an onboard air system.
