Hi, I just installed my new cam in my engine "It's my first" everything is going good but i need to know how the timing marks on the gears should line up. I have the engines #1 piston up but when i put the crank gear on, the timing mark points toward the driver side head.
Try using the "other" #1 cylinder??? Passenger side, front is #1, driver side front is #5.
I have one on the stand, went out to try it; sho-nuff the mark I made at the 12 o-clock position moved to the driver side head when I brought #5 up.
Practice, practice, practice...Better to go through it now, and not wonder when it's time to fire up.
LMAO!!! If it makes your bud feel any better, I had to crack the ol Chilton's to make sure I remembered it right. I hate it when someone else catches my mistakes before I do. LOL
With your new cam add GM's E.O.S. additive for breaking in a new cam and motor. preventions better than cam failure, seems high these days with the ZDDP additive reduction.
