Air intake?

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a 2001 F250 SD, extended cab, short bed, V10. 75000 on the odometer. I am thinking about getting an air intake. Does anybody have a recomendation? They all claim about the same performance, fuel milage, etc...

Is there anything else I should be thinking about along with the air intake?

Thanks

Yes. How to save your money by NOT buying an aftermarket air intake. I just don't see any restrictions in the factory intake except for maybe the inlet at the very end and that can be modded for about $3.12.

save the $300.00 and get you just a K&N filter and a hack-saw and chop that snorkle looking thing off the front of your air cleaner.

i beleve it was FREDVON4 who posted it : with the K&N saw about 7hp gain on the dyno

probably about what you'd get with the $300 set up!

What can you do to the intake for so cheap, Monsta? Is it the hacksaw mod TeamMudd speaks of?

Antelope V10's mod: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=26500

I was just guessing on the price. Still super cheap!

That looks like convoluted drain pipe. Is that what it is? If so I think I may have to do that!

On my 99 I used a 4" ridged dryer vent and then swaped to a Pineapple juice can. I did have to inlarge the hole in the support bracket. You probably really don't need to do anything but it's fun to mod stuff. If ya got the cash look into headers and cat-back exhaust too.

Put in an AEM brute force intake with washable dry filter for $200. Along with the zoodad mod my throttle response and power were very noticeably improved.
Definately worth the bucks !

i wasn't trying to start a debate. i've had good luck with k&n's! i actually got my filter new off of "scam"bay for $10! i did the same with the Pontiac Vibe i just bought for my wife, found one on ebay for less than the new price!

FREDVON4 has posted some # between the OE filter and the K&N. K&N had a slight HP gain over the factory style filter. and with a 7hp gain from the filter, i'd say that the whole kit together woun't see much more than that. a V10 intake from the filter back isn't that restrictive.

i havn't used a "dry"filter kit, i hear good things about their filters, alot of guys like them. maybe check into just getting the filter for your truck instead of the whole kit and save ya about $150!

There is no K&N debate.

The only debate is about truth-in-advertising

This goes back to my muscle-car comparison for light trucks these days. Trucks generally don't have to worry about noise levels (as much) as passenger cars. So, the intake is usually wide-open enough already. Except for the nose of the snorkel.

I've put a cold air intake on my last 3 vehicles because they had restrictive factory intakes. Seemed to make a difference. But I just got a 2004 F250 with a V10, and I don't see enough restriction to justify the money for a complete kit. That's a couple hundred I can spend on other things for it.
