Wait a minute. My owners manual & the Ford parts guy said to use "Mercon V" for the 4R100 transmission (2004 F250). Does someone know different?
Found this also:
MERCON® V Beginning with the 1997 model year, Ford introduced a higher performance level ATF with the MERCON V specification. Many Ford automatic transmissions from 1999 on will require a MERCON V fluid. The most notable exceptions are the E40D, 4R100, and CD4E transmissions, which still specify regular MERCON ATF.

Ford changed recommendations recently. They are dropping MERCON this year, and they claim that they have changed MERCON V to be compatible with everything that used to require MERCON.
I also changed my tranny fluid on my 2000 F-250 4x4 crew Lariat with 84000 miles. I used Casey's site and followed the instructions to a T. Very well written and easy to follow, Kudos to the original author. That is why FTE is such an awesome site, people helping others and shareing there knowledge.
Thanks
Tim
I also went thru the manual and for a 2000 they recommended regular Mercon ATF.
Just my 2 cents
