1992 Olds Bravada w/ Smart trac. It is just a glorified S-10. Control Module, Shifting actuator. Or what ever it is called is sticking. Making it not shift to 3rd till around 35-40 MPH. Will try an oil and filter change. Is there a drain on the converter. And most importantly what type tranny fluid dose it take. Can't find the owners manual. And the Stealer (witch is on another Island) said I would have to bring it in an would not tell me. This at a ferry ticket round trip of around 250 dollers. So that ain't happening. Got a local shop with a hoist. But do not trust them to install the proper fluid. I am thinking dextron III but need ta hear it from someone that knows. Thanks
It should be on the dipstick.
My 93 GMC Safari takes the DextronIII.
I think you got a 700r4 transmission in 92. In 93 they went to the 4L60e.
Both should take the same fluid.
Thank ya Guys. That is what I thought. The shop was saying something like Mercron universal. And I was sure It was DexIII. Thanks as it's been a while since I been in a GM tranny. Don't suppose ya know what ta call the thing that replaced the vacuum modulator would ya? As that is what is sticking. What additive do ya recommend ta help free it up?
I don't know as this is the first time the pan has been pulled since we got it in 2000. So ya its over do. The shop I have doing it ask me the other day what the top looking thing was in the last one they did. So if it's there in this one than no. Probably not.
The shifting actuator thing is controlled by a cable to the throttle. And a electrical plug. It or something is sticking as today she said that once in 3rd it would stay there down to 15 MPH and accelerate without shifting down. It is solid as there is no slippage. The governor give me some thought. But if it was hanging up. I would think It would shift hard at a constant RPM. Where this will actually stick in gear. Be it 2nd or 3rd. OD works fine on the highway. It is always ran with the gear selector in OD. Evan in deep snow. With no problem till now.

Depress readjust tab on cable adjuster and hold. Move slider back through fitting away from throttle body lever until slider stops at fitting. Release readjust tab and open throttle body lever to full throttle stop. This automatically adjusts slider to correct setting.
