Hamster Wheel

Just got my F-250 about a week ago, and last night I started to hear this sqeaky sound when I am driving. It sounds like a hamster wheel. I checked the underside to see if there was anything rubbing but everything looks fine, no rub marks on anything visible.

Then I had my wife drive while I stood outside to better locate the noise, but of course no noise. Seems to only start when doing about 20mph or faster going straight down the road.

Once the snow melts I will start taking off the wheels for a closer inspection. Any help appreciated.

And since this is my first post, let me introduce myself.

Live in PA, the truck is a 2006 F-250 XLT SuperCab with the FX4 package, the 5.4L engine, Auto Tranny w/1,800 miles on it.

Welcome to FTE!

That squeaking noise could also be U-joints. Check those also.

Check the rubber bushings on everything under the truck. A quick check is to spray WD40 on each one to see which one is squeaking.

I'm taking the truck back soon, the truck had some minor scratches on it and I am trying to get them to install a remote starter instead of fixing the scratches. The scratches don't bother me too much, they just add character in my book.

When the dealer decides what there going to do then I will tell them to check out the noise as well.

Wanted to get my hands dirty though and see if I could resolve the issue on my own.

Thanks for the welcome guys and thanks for the advise. I will be checking my U joints and I have a can of WD-40 waiting to spray.

My left front wheel had the same symptoms. My mechanic took the drive shaft out and was going to get a machine shop to change the universal joints. The shop told him things looked fine and couldn't guarantee that would stop the squeaking. He feels its no big threat and I should drive it more until it gets worse and they can properly diagnose the problem. Does this sound like good advice?

It's your call, but if it is making noise I would replace it.
