I will be able to figure this out, but i figure it'll be quicker if I ask here. when I connect the battery, there is a click behind the instrument panel, on the left side. something is coming on without the ignition switch being on, and the fuel gauge reads a level. I weas thinking possibly a bad ignition switch, as the PO has run a wire from the battery, to a switch under the dash, to the coil because the key won't start the engine, just turn it over. thought someone may know about the click so I can go right to the problem and save some troubleshooting time.
Also, the wiring is a jumbled rat's nest hanging out from under the dash from PO wiring stuff up like the radio and CB....just left this mess hanging from under the dash. Do I try to cut out all the extra BS, or use the wiring harness I have lying around. the only problem with the extra I have is that the resistor wire is fried, so I'd have to rerun that 1 wire in the harness.
Ford part number = D7AZ-12250-A Resistor Wire Coil to Ignition Switch Red w/Green Stripes.
My guess is that is why that mickey mouse wire is under dash, because original resistor wire burned. More help will follow from the electrical guru's here on FTE.
Don't cut anything off till you get some advice.
