I parked my 89'XLT for a second went inside and it just wont turn on.
Ive got spark, a new stater, new EEC and relay and fuel is getting to the rail. if i shoot starting fluid in the manifold she starts right up. What am i missing guys? plese help me out here.
Are you getting voltage to the fuel injectors? It is supposed to be less than 12V. I think 3-5V? Does it only run on the starting fluid, or does it need the can only for start up?
It only runs with the starter fluid. but i think it sputters a little with fuel cause i can keep it goin for a few extra seconds if i play with the throtle. but it might just be fumes. im not shure.
When you turn the key on before starting do you hear the electric fuel pump come on for a couple of seconds.
I had the same trouble with mine. I was doing a little preventive trouble shooting and checking the computer codes through the test connection in the engine compartment in the left wheel area. After all the tests I couldnt make her run. Only start on quick start for a couple of seconds.
I retraced my steps and found that a wire attaching to the ECM relay had rusted and fallen off. The ECM was getting no power. The high pressure fuel pump also gets power from here. I pulled all the connections from the relays in the left wheel area and resoldered the connection. I was supprised how many were almost rusted all the way through. Was kind of gald I broke in a lighted garage and not on a back country road in the dark.
hey i have the same problem has me stumped.
i have 38 psi at fuel rail, have spark but i have no elec pulse at injector, fuel cutoff switch is ok, no obvious wire or harness faults. any help

if your high pressure pump,(which is located on the driver side rail) is working. than youre probably going to have to change your computer. unless you get lucky like hifly78 and its just the wiring. but even in his case it was the computer. it just wasn't getting any power. i had to change mine. check your EEC relay anyway that might be it. the thing with the relay is i have been trying to buy a spare for a year. there isn't a parts store in NJ that has sold me one that worked. keep me posted. us 89's gotta' stick together. our electrical systems are off the wall. everyone with an 89' i know, has gone through this. hope this helps
