Installed a new gear reduction starter today. It starts SOOOO fast, that it makes my 2006 Mustang look like it has a slow start problem....lol After I installed it I crossed my fingers and decided to try it, even without glow plugs, just to see what happens. I nudged the key to the start position and Reeee Reeee Reee VROOOOM!! I swear that it took less than 500 miliseconds to start!!!! Let this be an omen to those wondering which starter to get, GET A GEAR REDUCTION!!!
LOL
I just checked again and Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts both have the limited lifetime warranty gear reducted starter for the same price. So, if your in a pinch both stores should help. But on the internet it did not specify if they were Mitsubiushi's or not. But lifetime of cranking 15-20 mins to change. Hmmm
...But lifetime of cranking 15-20 mins to change. Hmmm
But you'll be cursing that starter when it doesn't crank, regardless of how long it takes to get it out and get your new one under warranty. You'll still be walking or calling someone with your truck stranded.
Those lifetime warranties are a bad joke. Get a high quality starter that will last. I learned this lesson young back in the '80s when a friend got the liftetime starter and alternator from Checker. Changing one or the other every 6 months got old pretty quick.
Who cares if the warranty gets you a new starter at no cost at the counter when your car is stranded in a parking lot up in Winterpark, CO where the thing took a crap. Then downtown, then in the morning when you need to get to work, then...
Also, the battery life was dramatically shortened when it was repeatedly drawn down after the alternator stopped charging.
Lifetime warranty on cheap crap starters and alternators is false economy. They end up costing way more than a high quality unit.
I got mine from a place online called SS diesel supply for $160 with no core charge, it is new and not rebuilt. I happened to have $200 in PayPal and decided that I could buy the starter online and it wouldnt take any money from my bank account...lol, it was paid with my paypal money. I got off from work this morning (3rd shift), it was 25 deg F. and I cranked her over, and VROOOM she started again... with no glow plugs. My GPS are manual incase you are wondering. Best $160 I ever spent. no more crossing my fingers and saying "come on baby, come on. START!!!" lol,. just a nudge of the key and im ready to go.
