My 91 F250 is called a F250 Super Custom XL 2wd edition....It has a F350 frontend with heavy duty F350 rear leafsprings and can handle alot more than 3/4 ton has thicker plating on the metal and also came with an engine block heater in a 5.8 gas engine.....
It has no power windows no power locks no airconditioning, came with an AM radio,no tilt wheel but does have full instrumentation and delay for the wipers..Its a no-nonsense hardcore 2wd worktruck that could get me anywhere even through the snow mostly throughout its lifetime without the aid of tirechains or the need for putting 4wd...LOL
.
The engine block heater is part of the key as to why the truck lasted 29 years on the same engine and accumulated 565,000 miles before needing a fresh mill also the fact that it was built with a S42 5 speed ZF and doesnt need to be revved past 2500 to shift it when driving it normally...
You do realize everything you listed is a load of crap, right? F250 and F350 have the same front ends, and the same available leaf springs. Then there is the "thicker metal plating". Another load of crap
I have same engine and gears and tranny 96F350 SRW Long bed 4x4 and has Gear Vendor O/D 116,000 miles and maxon liftgate that is nice to have it saves my back Lol!
Here's another one with just 16k miles. One owner. Wow.

Maybe by same front end me means solid front axle. Isn't that the only real difference between the f250 and f350? The thicker metal plating and leaf spring thing...yeah that's obvious BS

If he has the HD version his frame is thicker, like the F350's.

By same front end I mean the SAME FRONT END. Identical parts used on both the 2wd f250 and f350

They are not the same, why would Ford even have an F350 model if you could order an F250 the same? Read the Spec. chart it clearly shows the F350 has higher rated spring options than the F250.
Even the front end is rated higher on the F350.
I'm not sure whether I've got LSD axles or not (seems doubtful) and I've been told by the previous owner that it's an F-250 HD but I'm not sure if that's true either.

I really dont care what that chart says. they use IDENTICAL parts. Look at the door jam of a f250 and F350. they have the SAME spring codes
The same goes for the rear. EVERYTHING is identical other than the rear blocks but the f350 is rated higher
I found out how 'rare' my truck was when it came to buy parts for it. Just about NOBODY's parts catalog listed that Ford EVER made a:
'97 F-250HD ext cab SHORT bed XLT with a 7.5L (460)/E4OD/4.10 posi. Long bed, yes, short bed no. From what I was able to learn, they were made in very small quantities for less than a year covering late '96-early '97 production..
I'd have to SPELL OUT that the '97 F250HD was old body style, and the '97 'light duty' was the new body style. SOmetimes I'd just short circuit the process and say that I had a '96
BUT---
THEN there were the mid-year changes - like finding the correct power steering line! Because they had a bulge in the tube that fit waaaaay down inside the steering box in order to seal properly. Or even the front radius arm frame bracket... Or the... Maddening!!!

BTW ford never made an extended cab . They make supercabs. They also made them supercab short bed f250s 95, 96 and 97. There was a new body style 97 as well. But if you just refer to your truck being a 96 it will eliminate any confusion
Here we are 10 years later. I refreshed the truck 2 years ago with new paint, trim, rubber, glass and new leather steering wheel. Still going strong with 193k miles. Some guy offered me $15k unsolicited. Maybe on eBay one day.
old post on an even older thread, but to this day, this is the only other truck I’ve seen, either online or in person, with the same metallic smoke paint as mine, and mine also has black from the lowest body line down, and I have yet to see another one with that combo.
mine’s a 93 single cab short bed xlt 4x4 with a 300 and m5od.
I've got a 97 f350 cc 2wd dually with an OBD2 mass air 460. I know they were only sold in California and maybe Mass, and only in 96 and 97. I know they're pretty rare in terms of the 460 but I've often wondered how many were made and how many are still in the road, especially in my configuration.
