Was wondering if there are any trucks out there with just the cat delete, but muffler left in. I rode in a friends 7.3 Excursion without the muffler and it was annoying loud! I like how quiet my truck is, especially since i drive the highway almost all the time. I wouldnt mind hearing more whistle from the turbo though. Any sound clips or experiences with this setup? Any gains in MPG or performance, less heat in the turbo etc.?
The new down pipe on an after-market exhaust eliminates the OEM resonator so you will actually hear more whistle in the cab (at least on mine it does) but it is not annoying to me. I use custom programming and I need all the breathing room I can handle but I do not want to be totally muffler delete....it still barks enough just as I have it.
The 7.3 sounds a lot different than a 6.0. I used to have a 95 and a 2001 7.3 (at one point they were both straight piped). In my opinion the 7.3 straight pipe is a lot louder than a 6.0. Now I have a 06 6.0 with 4" duals (no cat)on it. This thing is really disappointing, sound wise. It's not that loud at all. I wish that I had a 03 turbo on it. I have heard a straight pipe 03 6.0 and holly cow. The 03's sound awesome straight piped. The main diff is that the 03's whistle like crazy out the tale pipe. I don't know about the in cab noise while on the HWY. I guess that you could leave the muffler on. But the main thing is to get rid of the cat. Good luck.

I have an MBRP 4" turbo back no cat with the MBRP muffler and it is really quite quiet. I get a little bark when it first fires, but running it's pretty quiet.
I have a 4" turbo back AFE exhaust, no cat, but still have their highflow muffler and it whistles pretty good, when you really step on it, she'll start to howl atcha(towards the 2 and 1/2 marker on the tach, at the lower end its nothin but whistle), turned a few heads with that sound.
I've got the Banks Monster Exhaust, turbo back. I'm running a cat delete, but have the Banks muffler.
It's a little deeper, but I can't say it's a lot different than stock as far as "rumble and roar". But the one thing that is much more noticeable is the turbo whistle. The Banks downpipe has no insulation on it like the stock downpipe did. It can be a little annoying, but once you're cruising you kind of don't notice it anymore.
i just got the cat/muffler delete pipes for my 6.0, but haven't put them on yet. maybe this weekend if the weather is ok. after reading this thread, i'm hoping that by deleting the muffler, i'm not going to be super obnoxious for any customers. since mine is a work truck for me, and part daily driver too. is the 6.0 straight piped with stock pipes really loud all the time? i want it to sound good, but i don't want it to be so loud that it's annoying to people or myself/ family driving it .

dapgar. You''ll be surprised on the sound. I think that you'll like it. It will make it a little more throaty and not that loud at all. The loudest it will get is when you really stomp on it and that isn't even that loud. I know that my wife was really surprised after hearing our new 06 6.0 straight piped. She liked it. On my old 01 7.3 she said that it was obnoxious.
The 03's have a resonator in the down pipe and the tuning I was using in the video is a daily driver. For towing you would have to use a different file.
