Red face Block Heater

Can Anyone Tell Me If And When We End Up Using The Block Heater, Is There A Length Of Time Or Any Other Criteria For A Safe Hook Up. Or Does It Not Matter, Like Can It Be Left On All Night Or Only For 10, 20, 30 Minute Or What? I Have No Clue, I Am A New Diesel Owner And Only Want To Do The Right Thing. .... Thank You.

I use mine all the time. Can't stand waiting to go in the morning. Keeps inside & outside glass clean, no scraping. Eliminates extended warn-ups. Haven't noticed a lot of change in my electric bill, usually on around 7 hours a night.

Forgot, have mine on a seperate circuit with a ground fault outlet. Working outside in wet conditions you do not want to get fried . You can buy the extension cord from Ford if money is no object. I went to Lowes and got a heavy-duty construction grade cord.

You can leave it plugged in all night, if its below +10 or so I would strive to have it plugged in at least 3 hours.

It is just a heating element in your engine block that heats the coolant to 50` or so. Plug it in all you want as it is only heating the coolant which warms the rest of the engine componets, to a lesser extent the colder it gets.

Get yourself a 15 amp timer from Home Depot (block heater is 10 amps) and have it start 3 or 4 hours before you're ready to go. I use the timer with the removable pins so mine shuts off after 6 hours in case I sleep in or don't use the truck. Electricity should cost about 7 to 10 cents per hour for the block heater. I also use a Wolverine Model 16 250 watt oil pan heater spliced into the block heater cord so after 3 hours of block and oil pan heat she fires right up and gets toasty fast.
