I am not bashing the diesel. I like the idea and might decide to own one, but I think with the other gas motors from the competitors it would be nice to get on top of the hill again.

I wouldn't say nobody would buy a diesel if it cost 6 grand, they don't have any problem selling diesels in the f-250. People will pay extra money for a diesel, it's the in thing, the fad, you gotta have one to be hip and some guy's actually work thiers ha ha. I would of liked to had a hemie fighting gas v8 as well, at least as an option. I guess ford feels with high gas prices, big v8's won't be as attractive as the the more fuel efficent diesel. I'm a gas engine man myself, but must I have to addmit, diesels can lay down the torque, even at a crawl. lowend Torque is more important to most truck ownwers than raw hp. I just don't see why they couldn't offer both. Maybe they will, I'm sure truck trend doesn't know everything. They only know what ford wants them to know. If that piture is of the actual 09, it looks pretty good. Ford is getting crazy with that fusion grill, thier putting it on everything, I'm surprised they haven't tried plopping it on to a mustang, I better not say that to loud, "they might" ha ha.

yeah i know....i just think it would be nice to have the diesel.....all that power....the other truck companies won't do it unless the upgrade frames....the F-150 can handle the torque that 4.4L will put out....put that motor in a nissan, toyota, chevy or prolly dodge 1/2 ton trucks and it will prolly bend the frame from all the torque

I agree that ford has by far the strongest frame in the class as well as the strongest trans, but do you think the 4R75E that backs the 5.4 will handle 500+ ft lbs?

I thought the 6 speed auto was a done deal and ready to go, the escape is supost to get it in the 08 model which thier starting to build now. I know it's not the same tranny, but the 6 speed thing was supost to be ready to go a cross the lineup I thought.

I forgot about the 6 speed. Yeah it should be strong enough. I just wonder about the rear end gearing and the final drive ratio. That will dictate what kind of mileage you will get.

So do you guys thnk they are still keeping the 5.4 and 4.6, just adding the 6.2 and the diesel? Maybe just adding some more HP and Torque to them? By kinda nice if they could trim some weight off of these trucks. Hope they have a winner because GM and the Toyota are raising the bar!

regarding the six speed tranny, it is currently being used in the 2007 expedition, with the 5.4 motor. i rode in the new expedition and this tranny totaly changes the 5.4 s performance in a good way! alot more responsive and quick and smooth acceleration! regarding different engine options for 2009, ford you need to offer folks the diesel and 6.2 , you need another lightning! good p.r.! and you need to get all that together and on the ground pretty dam fast!

Nope, the picture appears to be reversed, based on wipers and antenna.
