filter mods

I figured I would spend my money buying the things that will protect my truck before I buy the ones that abuse it.
I know of the....
CCV
Harpoon
HUTCH
I have heard people telling me to do the transmission oil filter mod and haven't found that on the mods page or maybe I missed it and can't find it on any search engines.
I have also heard of someone telling me to do the coolant mod, is that the CCV or something different?

Thanks for the help guys!

Also I have a steering problem still. I was told it might be a bent stabilizer but I replaced it and it is still really tough when it gets down to the last turn in the wheel to the right. Any other thoughts, it does have a slightly bigger tire then stock but doesn't come close to hitting the wheel well.

You can look in my gallery for alternative locations to mount trans and coolant filters. I have another lube bypass filter option, too.

mx... from the 5 months I've spent reading through hundreds of threads in this forum of highly experienced diesel owners and mechanics, I have concluded personally that the single best thing I can do for my engine is filter everything possible that isn't already filtered, and add better filtration where OEM filters exist.

One thing no one has mentioned yet is the 6637 air filter mod. I guess is almost falls more along the lines of a power enhancement in comparison to teh OEM filter, but I think that it also provides better filtration as well as lots more air flow. I have pics in my gallery for the 6637 and oil bypass mods that I've done.

I already did that.

What is the oil bypass mod, doesn't it defeat the purpose of a oil filter? and any one know a solution to my steering problem?

Where is the best place and price to buy the filter bypass for the motor oil or coolant? Plus does a filter come with the kit?

Since you have replaced the stab. and you are still having problems, it could be the following:
larger tire, but not hitting WW, could be rubbing on leaf spring. Do you have after market wheels? are they the correct backspacing?

Does this steering problem only happen when the brakes are applied (like backing out of a parking space or turning the wheel while parked)? If so then you may have a weak Hydro-boost manifold. The hydroboost is driven by the PS pump and helps apply pressure to the braking system(while taking away pressure from the PS system)
have you flushed the PS system to make sure there is no trash in the pump?
Have you checked your ball Joint on the right side?

Maybe this will help, keep us posted.

The oil bypass mod is where you install what's called a bypass filter taht takes a small slipstream of oil and filters it to 1-2 microns. As you run the engine, you end up filtering 100% of the oil over time and maintain a cleaner oil that can theoretically run longer between oil changes. Some folks in here have reported running as long at 17K miles, but I'm personally not wanting to go that long.

Several companies make bypass systems... Amsoil, OilGuard, Racor, etc. I originally bought an Amoisl system, but sent it back before the install and decided to install the OilGuard system instead. Pics of my install are in my gallery, adn there are a couple of other threads running right now where lots of folks are talking about this issue.

Just for convenience, here's a link to the OilGuard, Amsoil, and Racor sites where they discuss the bypass systems they sell.

http://www.oilguard.com/HowItWorks.php
https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/bf.aspx
http://www.parker.com/racor/lfs_bypss.html

If I were you, I would look at multiple systems and read through the various threads in FTE so you can get a full perspective on what's available, then choose what you believe to fit your needs and budget the best. Another excellent site to visit and go through is http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/.

You're always welcome to email me with questions about my own choise and install - always glad to help out where I can.

thanks for the help as far as mods.

To answer your questions on the steering, I haven't flushed the system yet, I am not really sure how, I am going to pick up a hynes (sp) manual and read up on it. It does it both moving and with the brakes applied, no matter what and only to the right side on the last turn in the wheel so I don't think there could be any trash in the system. I never thought about looking to see if it clears the leaf spring but I know it cleared the wheel well and it has stock wheels. The ball joints are fine that was the first thing I checked and lubed before installing the new stabilizer. I wouldn't mind it if it just got a little hard to turn but it is literally as hard to turn as if your power steering were to go out...

Also it doesn't make any growling noises and my rpm's don't drop when it's cut all the way. I couldn't hear the tire rubbing on any thing either but that wasn't a good check since the only thing you can hear is that engine music.

I just got both of these kits from dieselsite. They should arrive today. I am waiting for ITP diesel to get more fuel line in on Thurs. Then I will get the pre-pump mod from Dennis. (regulated return is being redesigned then it goes in too.)

My question is where can I get replacement Baldwin filters for these kits? The shipping alone from dieselsite will double the cost of the filters. I would like to buy a box of each in bulk as I will be installing the same kits on my wifes X this summer too.

Try this place for Baldwin also: http://www.adiesel.com/baldwinfilters.html

The filter price is about the same but shipping is usually much less.

Also try filterbarn.com

Though pretty reasonably-priced, alas, he's NOT an FTE sponsor! ;-((
