I am looking for good ideas on disc brake upgrades for my 1978 F250 Crewcab. I pull a large horse trailer regularly and am needing to upgrade brakes all around. Any suggestions or good experiences? Thanks
there is a realy good therad on here for dana 60 disk brakes. I have bookmarked but dont know how to send it to you. It was titled 77 Ford F250 4X4- Dand 60 disk brake conv. It was in his gallery I dont know his screen name but it says crated by Grant Blevins. Great delails on how he did his and was realy cheep. Check it out if you can search for it.
I would also like to upgrade the front brakes as I go. Any suggestions? I have found a couple of conversion kits on internet. Anyone have any experience with this one?
The great lake brackets are the best looking brackets and fit quite well. Purchase the rotors and calipers and hoses at your local parts supplier, easier. Just know that the (front calipers from a 3/4 ton) 78 and earlier chebby use a 7/16-20 banjo bolt, and the 79 and later chebby use the 10mm x 1.5 banjo bolt. Most of the short SUS hose kits to put on the end of you hard lines have the 10mm banjo's, so you would need the 79 and later calipers. FYI- cause I learned the hard way.
Make sure you get the proportioning valve for the rear line. Otherwise your stock distribution block sends the new rear calipers too much pressure. I was told not to use the e-brake calipers as they are too much trouble. Go with the std calipers and when you get a chance put an e-brake on the transfer case. Rotor on the drive shaft, bolt mechanical caliper to the transfer case.
Make sure you position the new calipers and brackets so the bleeders face up, they do you no good facing down (physics).
