I was wondering, do you need to do anything with the cdr valve when you add a turbo? Does the now pressurized intake maifold keep the crankcase from venting properly? Does it need to be moved somehow to the "vacuum" side of the turbo? Just wondering.
Yes, it always gets moved between the air cleaner and the turbo. ATS and Hypermax pulled the gasses from the left valve cover. Some old Banks setups ran a hose to the two bolt cover in front of the injection pump.
Thanks. I'm considering trying to build a remote mounted turbo system similar to an S.T.S. design, where the turbo is mounted under the vehical. It is a very interesting concept and would be much easier to fabricate from scratch than an above engine setup. The important thing to realize is that it needs a bigger compressor to make up for the cooler/slower exhaust running through the turbine. If I do it and it works, I will post info and pics.
Kind of a crazy setup for those remote mount turbos. You have to rig up an electric oil pump to pump oil back to the engine. I was sure these were a joke, but some of them really work.
I am thinking that I would use a small hydraulic pump, belt driven off the motor with it's own resevor (kind of like an old plow setup) and adjust the relief valve down to about 30psi. That way it could use its own super clean synthetic oil. It would be both cleaner and cooler. Both good things for the turbo.
