A buddy has a 1990 F-250 with a 351W. That motor is shot, so he bought a 1977 Cougar with a 351W.
My question is...what all are we gonna need to do to get the efi working on this old warrior? I know that the 1990 is speed density and there for it will need to be converted to mass air, or he will have to run the efi cam and find manifolds (his are cracked).
Our state isn't too harsh on emmission controls, but it seems tougher to swap that truck to a carb engine.
The stock 77 cam shouldn't radical enough to annoy the SD system, so you should be able to use the 77 engine with either SD or Mass Air.
To graft EFI on the older engine, simple swap out the shortblocks. Keep the EFI heads/intake/wiring stuff from the newer engine, slapping it on the older engine.
The truck does not need to be converted to mass air, but it would really benefit from a cam upgrade... The one in my sig or the Comp Cams 35-255-5. The '77 heads will hurt performance, but they should be compatable with the EFI intake unless I'm mistaken... could be issues with the water passages.
