what type of off roading?
I know different applications need different power demands.
General weekend use 200-250.

not much for HP myself, I'm a torque guy, but for good all-around, I would say 300-400 would be a nice mixture, as long as you're getting comparable torque numbers.

It's all relative to the weight of your vehicle, the gearing, and the terrain. Torque is better for most types of terrain other than fine sand dunes and mud.

I would take 100:1 gearing and 200 hp over 43:1 and 500 HP going up a hill anyday .

I have about 160 HP and 310 ft lbs
I would like to have right around 300 hp and 400 ft lbs.

what type of wheeling? more horsepower is always better, but the type of wheeling will decide if you need more down low tq....
