Ford Brothers,
My parents are looking at buying a 05 explorer xlt 2wd with 32,000 miles extra clean for 16,000. How different are the years mentioned above. I know before we purchased our navigator I did some research. I was initally looking at 04's but with the tranny going from 4 to 6 speed in 05, I went with a 05. Plus the 06's didn't change that much so it seemed like the year to buy. so what year would you guys recommend buying on the explorer? And does this price sound right?
If it were me, I'd keep an eye out for a very clean older Explorer. An example would be mine...a 2000 one-owner that starts and runs like the day I bought it, and kept very clean...110,000 miles which kbb.com says is about 20,000 too high. Anyway the street value is like $6500, so you can see the depreciation on these SUVs is horrendous. The only way it makes any sense is to buy a clean one and keep it for twenty years.
