Driving along this day in Midwest, cold. Heat is working fine and all of a
sudden no more heat. Check the vent direction and that valve flow appears
to work fine, airflow through respective vents. Air conditioning definitely
works. Check of radiator and hose from top to manifold and it is warm to
the touch. Left truck running in driveway for about 20 minutes and no
appearance of overheating. What does not seem to be reacting properly is
the dashboard interior temp control dial for cold or hot. Very little if
any detectable heat, warmer than outside temps appears to be coming out of
vents. I have not yet checked heater hoses into heater box, if there are
any. Blower motor works fine, just lost heat. Any ideas before I take into Ford dealership. Never had problems prior to today.
Ford F-250, Lariat, 4x4, automatic, 106K miles. Will be getting 100K
service in Spring.
Either the director door is not working or the heater core is pluged. I think the director is still vacume operated, and it devides AC condensor from heater core chambers. You might get by with a coolant flush, but if you notice a sweet smell coming from the vents you will need to replace the heater core.
No sweet smell anywhere, nothing sweet about this at all. Fluids level in range. Dropping off at Ford dealership tomorrow will have them do the big tune up and get the heat on again. If it was warm outside in Ohio, I would look into it further myself. I hope they are not going to hurt me too bad for the comprehensive service and added heat problem. Going over what I can remember during my drive, there may actually have been a whistling noise during my brief heated drive.
If you have orange extended life antifreeze in it check the heater core for blockage, it happended to 2 of our engines one gas & one diesel. Talked to a couple of local garages after blowing out the core with a hose, all said they have seen this problem also.
