today when i first started my truck as it was running and the fast idle was still on i checked the advance wire on the pump to se if it had juice and it did. i unpluged it to see if it made any difference in how the truck ran and it didnt. should it have made a difference in how it ran and does it make a clicking noice like the fuel shut off?
i might make a click noise but you wont hear it with the engine running.
the only difference should be the idle speed when the little advance piston is pushing out on the throotle linkage
The it. only difference you might notice at idle is a slight decrease in the pre-ignition "rattling" sound of the engine when you unplug the cold timing advance. You have to have a prettty well-tuned ear to hear it though. The timing advance only changes the timing something like 1-1.5 degrees IIRC. Hardly even noticeable at idle....
The only difference should be the Power Stroke rattle should decrease.
No change in engine speed.
If you can hear it, it clicks about like the fuel shut off solenoid, maybe a little quieter since there is less linkage involved in the top of the IP.
If you are timed to advanced already you will not notice much power difference.
Engines that are timed slower notice more power when the timing advance is on.
