Timing Chain question

For someone that does valve cover gaskets and a few other minor repairs, how hard would it be for me to replace the timing chain and sprokets on my 89 Bronco w/302 and 230,000 miles ? Also what are the needed tools and what kind of improvement will I see ?

Thanks again for all of your help,

Frank

Timing Chain question

It's not that hard, just time consuming as you have to take a lot of stuff off to get to the timing chain. To replace the timing chain, you have to remove the fan, fan clutch, water pump, A/C compressor (just loosen it), and the bracket for the A/C compressor. Then remove the crank pulley and timing cover, swap the timing set, and put it all back together.

You also have to be ABS0LUTELY CERTAIN that you have the engine @ #1 TDC on the compression stroke before you remove the gearset, because the replacement has to go back on EXACTLY that way, or your timing (valve AND ignition) will be off & the engine either won't run, or will be VERY weak.
