coolant leak

coolant leak

Ok, so i changed out my radiator to fix one leak, but I still have a leak coming from the engine area. On top of my timing chain cover along the engine there is coolant built up that runs down the left side (facing the engine) of the timing chain cover. I felt under the thermostat to see if its gasket was leaking but it didnt feel wet dripping down. Its almost as if the timing chain cover gasket is what was leaking, but that wouldn't be leaking coolant. It also appears to be leaking down the right side as well. Can anyone tell me what might be leaking coolant in this area?

95 Bronco EB 351

also a side note, on my gear shifter, there appears to be a brownish oil leaking from the area inside the stearing column. Not a bad leak but a little. Is this ok?

Water from the pump travels through ports in the timing chain cover then into the engine. There is a set of gaskets between the block and the timing chain cover which encircles the ports and another gasket between the timing chain cover and the water pump. I found out the outside bolts by the ports break easily.

ok, thanks for the info b4hntn, i guess i will have to change that gasket. It appears to be quite a pain though, so this will probably suck!

You might put only a little heat where the bolts go into the block then try rocking the outside bolts back and forth. Then try to tighten just a little. Has the timing chain been replaced? Water pump? If they are original, I suspected the excess gasket sealant in the timing chain bolt holes and cooked for a dozen years caused my bolts to break. Then I learned about heat. I did a preventative 172K timing chain set replacement, water pump, and thermostat for under $120 if I remember correctly, A pro can do it in a half a day but I squeezed it into a couple of days taking my time. Wish I had replaced the fan clutch while at it. At least, when it is done you do not have to worry about them for a long time. BTW, I used Permatex tack and seal on the gaskets.

Thanks for the advice! Timing chain, water pump all original, i'll probably replace it all while i'm at it. hopefully i wont break any of those bolts, though i'm pretty good about breaking things in the winter, so i'll be sure to add a little heat to it first. Thanks again!
