I did the ZooDad mod yesterday. I ran on the freeway today and the truck seemed to accelerate and plain run better. Seems to reason that it would since it isn't sucking air from the dead spot that is just in front of the snorkel. Pics in gallery.
I got a slight bump from the mod when I did it to the 2001 2v V10...sort of wished I had waited until after break in to do it to this 3v V10 05 version...alas, I did the mod on day one as part of my touchy feelie getting to know the truck open every thing up and look see... so I have no idea if I gained any throttle response of HP/torque
Yeah I used a hole saw. I think it was a 21/4". I don't know about any water problems as I haven't had it out in the rain, but reading about the mod, the diesel guys that started this mod never had any problems.
On EDIT, I went out and measured and it its closer to 21/4".

Also as far as water ingestion, that's why I went a little lower than direct ram air. I did my lower hole right above the web you can see if you look on the inside under the rubber flap.
I drove in the rain tonight so I had a chance to check it out for water. Looking in the upper hole I could see there was water on the black bullet nose of the filter. The truck ran fine though. I think it is more the tire splash of water from the car in front than actual rain. I might fab up a couple of plugs and keep them in the glove box for when it rains.
That was my concern, when following someone. I'm thinking about hole-sawing a few smaller holes, say like 1.5" because I know I can get rubber expansion plugs to fill those holes. Let us know what you do Antelope. Thanx for the update.
Good idea on the hole size metalman. I'm going to keep my eye open for some of those plastic tapered plugs that are in the end of pipe. FWIW, I was reading from the originator Mr. Zoodad himself, that water was a good reason to switch to a oil/gauze filter.

Did the zoodad with one 2" hole and with my AEM Brute Force intake I noticed improvement in throttle response ! I believe with an after market intake system one 2" hole should be enough. Any thoughts ?
