I have a friend, that is also a Ford diesel owner, tell me a few weeks ago that the Dealership we bought our trucks at told him not to do any mods. to his new 08 f250 he was buying. He has owned several PS's over the last few years and has always put new exhaust, intake, and tuner's on all his trucks. The dealer has always honored the warranty with all this stuff on the truck if he ever had to take it in for warranty work.
Anyway too the point. He said that the dealership told him that there computers are now linked to Fords main headquater's and every time they put someone's vehicle on the computer the big guys can tell if the vehicle has been moded. He is very close friend's with the service manager of the dealership so I don't think he is pulling my chain on this one.
I just looked in the 6.4 forum and the talk is they pull the PCM if there is a questionable claim and read the unit at FMCO engineering for determination.
I am just assuming since not only Ford, but GM and Chrysler as well have had bad financial statements lately and they are trying to cut down on expenditures. Nothing really suprising to me.
You cant blame Ford for this. If I was the CEO I would have done this in 04 or whenever. Dont get me wrong, I love what tuners and all the other goodies can do, but to expect the maufacturer to fix the resultant problems is just not right. I think we would all be mortified if the true cost of all the repairs related to tuners was finally figured out.
I think it really depends on the mod. I play and I pay because I run an Edge tuner, haven't had a problem in 70,000 miles though. But for Exhaust I think they would still honor warranty unless you had an exhaust issue. Intake is questionable, I have an aftermarket intake also and know there is a possibility I will have to pay for any problems directly related to Intake before my 100,000 warranty is up.
Just know that if you play, now MotherFord is watching much closer and you will probably have to pay if you have a problem that can be related to your modification.
I have been on the fence weither to buy a '08 6.4 or a '07 6.0. Not that I want to buy a brand new truck and mod the hell out of it and expect Ford to pay if I blow it up, not that at all. However since I heard that they put sensors in the exhaust system and you cannot put a AFM system on without voiding the 5/100 warranty, and now this post, I think I'll probably buy the last of the '07 and get a hell of a deal on it. Rather than spend 6-7k more on an 08 and get the shaft or be interigated everytime there is a warranty claim, moded or not. I like my 04 but it's pushing 85k and don't want to be out of warranty when something finally happens and with my luck it'll be the day it OD rolls to 101K miles.

everyone was worried when the 96+ 4.6L mustangs came out because they had 4 02 sensors vs the old 2. A set before the cat's and a set after there for you couldnt delete the cats because it would cause cells and running probs...long story short they came up with 02 simulators.....give the aftermarket time to figure out ways to get around the extra sensors....its possible...plus ford still has to proove the mod caused the failure..i wouldnt not buy a 08 because of that....they already put down 270hp and 630 rwhp stock so once the aftermaket gets chips and exhaust they may make it into the 800-850+ no to shabby.
