Well the DOVE-C heads have smaller combustion chambers than the later heads. They are like the second best stock 429/460 heads. The only better ones were the ones on the SCJ and CJ but good luck finding those.
I am going to be putting together a 429 for my stang one day.
Do you need a block to start from? Thats what the tow truck supposdly has, not much to the motor left though. As long as I get scrap metal for it, but then thats probably the only thing that motor will ever be.
What are those? Where is a good source of info for various heads, blocks, etc. I know where there is a 4 bolt main block but the guy wants too much money for it. He also has dove heads but not sure which ones. I know some of the police interceptor stuff worked well.
Yes they did but they are probably as easy to find as the CJ and SCJ heads.
UPDATE ON HEADS:
I've disassembled the heads and things look good. The valves have almost no wear, still have to check for cracks but I haven't heard of cracked Ford heads so I should be fine. I'm thinking of redoing the heads as it will cost me under $150. It just needs new springs and install the nice positive valve seals.
Hey Snowking, I'm thinking of painting my 302, the stock flathead V-8 colour. Does this get me back into your good graces?
A good source of 460 info is 460Ford.com.Here is a link to a page with 460 head info http://www.reincarnation-automotive....s-1-index.html Now that there are aftermarket 460 heads available and even the cheaper chinese versions it seems as though the CJ and police heads are coming up for sale more often than they used to.

Are you planning on hardened valve seats too? I saw a set of c9 302 heads at a swap meet that had obviously run for quite a while on unleaded gas, the valves were pounded quite a ways into the head!
So careful driving on unleaded gas under light loads will still hurt the valve seats on the pre 72 engines? I heard so much pros and cons I don`t know what to believe.
I drove my 69 Mach I-351 4V 290 hp for 3/4 thousand miles in the 90`s till I sold it. It would ping slightly on today`s premium fuel but not too bad by being carefull.
