Lightbulb 71 302 to 80 inline 6

I am looking into buying a 71 f 100. It is two wheel drive and comes with a 302. I would like to put my 80 inline 6 into the truck. I really don't care much for the 302.

I was wondering what parts I would need and how much work would be involved.

My straight 6 has a C6 tranny, I'm not sure what the 71 has.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

William

find a 70's 2wd truck w/300 6 and pull the frame mounts, radiator, and throttle cable/firewall bracketry. That would be a good start. Whatever tranny you decide to use(bolt pattern's the same), you'll need a 300 flywheel/flexplate for balance. Shouldn't be real difficult. the 80's C6 might need the shifter bracket flipped 180*, as I had to do this using an 83 C6 in my 79 bronco. If the 71 is a manual, I'd keep that for better mpg and use of the 300's torque, which would also save $ from having driveshafts made, and would be easier not having to modify the steering column/shifter. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I am not totally sure what I am going to do as of yet. My drive trains perfect but the body is falling off of the frame. I think I am going to continue to look and try to find a straight 6 coupled with a manual tranny. I am also not real sure I want to pay 500 bucks for the 71 f100.

If it is straight clean and drives. It won't be for sale long for 5 bills.

If I were to find a four speed manual tranny to put behing the 300-6, would I have to find new driveshafts to put in the 71. The truck is still for sale, and I would really like a manual tranny over my automatic.
