Whenever I hit the brakes on my 90 Bronco it is a guessing game on which way it is going to pull. I have had the brakes inspected and there is no problem with them, it seems that it has been this way for a while. I heard that worn radius arm bushing and other worn bushings can cause this. Has anyone else had this problem? What was the fix?
i had a similar problem and it came out to be my proportioning valve for the brake system had gone insane. I fixed that and now it work ok. I would check that to see if its ok, then check out your radius arms and other front end parts. Also you might have a disc brake locking up, my buddies 91 F150 did that and the truck would always pull to the left since the brake was hanging up.
I have the same problem. Yes, it can be caused by unevenly worn radius arm bushings. Unless its a major annoyance or a safety issue, I would say it probably isn't worth tracking down. Pretty much everything that could cause this problem isn't something easy to repair. Those radius arm bushings included.
I disagree about the radius arm bushings. I found that when parked on a hill, I could see the gap between the radius arm bushing and the bracket, so I found it time to replace them. They are actually quite simple to change, the passenger side being easier than the driver's. The worst part is that on the driver's side, you have to grind off the heads of the rivets for the brackets and replace them with GRADE 8 bolts. Took me a couple of hours to do both sides, and very well worth it in the end.
Your problem could be one of several things to include tie-rod ends, ball joints, brakes/calipers, steering slop, axle pivot bushings, and shocks.
I had a similar problem on my Bronco, and found it was the front brake caliper slides. I took them apart, cleaned the slides, and lubed them with caliper grease and it has been great ever since.
Hehe. If you're gonna do the radius arm bushings, just tell the wife that you have to take the entire wheel assembly apart to get to them. (So sayeth Chilton's). And if you're gonna have that off, you've already done half the work to installing a suspension lift...*hint hint*
