'93 Ranger Splash. Did Ford ever put manual locking hubs on a truck with the 4X4 push buttons on the dash?
Just got the truck and am trying to establish if this was original or aftermarket alteration. The hubs are clearly the type Ford used on the Rangers.
But when I engage the hubs, there is a rubbing alsmost grinding noise. Doesn't change after pushing the dash button or "engaging the hubs".
The Haynes service manual and the truck's owner's manual explains manual hub operation with the floor shifter, and auto hubs with the push button, but never a combination of the two.
After I had so much trouble with the auto-hubs on my 94, I replaced them with manual locking hubs. I have had no trouble since. As for the grinding noise, it could be that your hubs are shot, just a guess... Warn has a kit for the hubs.
I also had a grinding noise with auto hubs/ push button on 94 STX. I replaced with the warn manuals and not an ounce of trouble since. yours may have been switched out using manual hubs from another truck, I too can't find where Ford used manuals with push button.
Good luck
Roy
That's weird. I just went to the Warn link and it says "No parts available for your selection at this time." It's the Warn website! You put in year, make, model, etc . . . and they say they don't have hubs??!!! That's just weird.
