Just got my first diesel (E350) and only on my second tank of gas. These chat lines convinced me to use additives, especially with the cold weather we're having here in Michigan. Bought a gallon bottle of Power Service at WallMart, but can't very welll pour it straight from the gallon bottle into the tank without a major mess. Here's what I came up with - WallMart sells a nifty nozzle (called Spillbuster) with a built in on-off valve that screws right into the gallon Power Service bottle. Put about a 6" piece of clear tubing onto the end of the nozzle so you can see what's comming out better. Bought a 12 ounce clear bottle ov GUMMOUT engine cleaner, which I dumped into my gasser car as I really only wanted the bottle. It's got a long thin neck that makes it really easy to put in the gas tank without spilling anything. I took the label off of the bottle and drew lines on the outside at 4 oz, 6 oz, and 10 oz levels. The small bottle is easy to fill, you can see how much is in it and how much you've poured in and the long neck is easy to put in the tank fill tube. The valve on the Power Service bottle makes it easy to control. Put the clear tubing into the GUMMOUT bottle, turn the valve on and you're home free. That was my solution. Any other great ideas out there?
Whatever works. Sounds like you have a good solution.
I use 20 oz soda bottles that I've marked with a 16 oz line. I don't partially fill my tank and only fill when it reaches 1/4 tank. So I always put in 16 oz at a time. The only problem I had is the additive eats away the seal in the soda cap. I fixed that by switching the cap to one off a water bottle. The additive doesn't phase the seal on the water bottle cap but eats up the seal on the soda bottle cap. Go figure. Haven't had any problems getting the contents into the tank. No mess whatsoever.
Anyway, I picked up a remote filler line from Tractor Supply. It screws right onto the Power Service bottle, has an on/off valve, and has an 18 inch clear flexible hose with a cap on the end. Just put it on the PS bottle, take cap off end, place hose into bottle, open valve, turn bottle up and fill to mark on soda bottle. Clean, easy, and mistake free.
I fill 4 to 6 at a time so I'm not doing it once a week.
The best way to store and carry fuel additives is in a camping fuel bottle which is made for such. They have gaskets to prevent spills, well made and convenient to use.
I use the large 33oz bottle and carry two of them (filled) at all times. For me with a 44 gallon tank in my Excursion, one bottle per tank is what I use for a double dose rate. Nothing worse than a leaky bottle or using a cheap soda bottle as some use.
