heating issues

i just purchased a 97 f150 4.6 4x4, has 88k miles on it. when i test drove and actually took the truck home, had great heat. the temp was about 28 those days. now its single to low double digits out, and i have luke warm heat. the upper hose gets luke warm eventually, same with the heater core hoses. the coolant is at the correct level. but also i had a small leak start once it started getting cold. i am stumped, im thinkin thermostat maybe, but why all a sudden a leak? and its a small leak, not huge, but noticeable. thanks

It could very well be the thermostat.
As for a small leak.
This could be weather related.
Check the clamps once the engine has warmed up.
Also look into the cooling fan. If it is seized up you will have too much air flow through the radiator.
