I'm not completely serious but I would like some opinions. Why is the Lincoln Towncar named a towncar? Who want's to drive the titanic downtown where the streets are so tight? Has this name been around since towns were small and spacious? Just a thought I've been wondering. Opinions?
Town Cars as originally designed were one step up from the Landaulet. Solid rear compartment with open chauffeurs seat, which had little protection from the elements...maybe a removable canvas or steel roof.
Landaulet's were similar, except the area directly over the rear seat passengers featured a folding canvas roof. That's where the term "Landau Bars" comes from. Ever seen the film Sunset Blvd? The featured car was a 1929 Isotta Fraschini Landaulet.
Ford offered one of the first Town Cars...on the Model T! In those days, 'ol Henry sent cars to dealers whether they ordered them or not, so every dealer in the country was stuck with Model T Town Cars. Many were modified, the bodies were removed, or cut off behind the drivers seat, and a crude pickup bed was installed.
Yes, fellow FTE'ers, the first Ford pickups were cobbled from Model T Town Cars.

I'll take it you have never had the privledge in riding in what i like to call the "STINKIN LINKIN"
What the hell are you talking about?? that has to be one of the most comfortable cars that i have EVER riden in. . and yes i have riden in "nice cars" before my grandmother owns a BMW 7 series. as a matter of fact she's had my f150 for the last two weeks because it was so cold out side that all the doors would myseriously "fly" open as she was driving down the road .. Talk about quality control ... no thanks I'll stick to my big Lincolns and Fords
I had a big mercury grand marquie and it was a very nice ride.Problem is with those cars and the lincoln is they get to be very exspensive when little things start to break. They depreciate fast

I drive a Lincoln because they depreciate fast. I bought mine for $2,000 less than a V6 Camry of the same year. Most of the old codgers that can afford a new Lincoln keep them perfect. Most of the mechanical parts are the same as a Crown Vic and you can buy them almost anywhere and they are inexpensive when compared with foreign cars. I have found that they break very infrequently. Go to e-bay and sort Towncars by miles and you will see a bunch of very high mileage vehicles that are still going strong.
