Carb size

I was hoping someone could tell based on experience if an Edelbrock 750cfm model 1407 carb is too much carb for a stock 73 460? It is the size that Edelbrock recommends, but I thought I would ask for real world experience.

I am also looking at the performer series of intake manifolds and have noticed that they have both round and square ports, does anyone know if a 73 460 would have round or square ports or how I would go about telling without pulling the exsisting intake to look?

Thanks in advance for your perspective.

Go to the main FTE page and look under calculators for carb sizes.

You can use any carb from 600-750 CFM for a stock 460. The 600 will work fine and is a little easier to tune than the larger sizes.

Guys, Thanks for all the suggestions and insight. I got a fairly good deal on a 750 and will give it a try.
