icp sensor

icp sensor

I have a check engine light on for icp low. what has to come off to get to the sensor? It looks hard to get to.

According to your profile, you have a 2001, which would have a 7.3L. If that's the case, it's in the left head oil rail towards the front. If you look at it just right, it will almost fall out on it's own.

sorry my profile is wrong. i have 2003 6.0. i know the sensor is in the back by the turbo but i dont know if youy have to pull the turbo our the piping to get to it. the check engine light will clear, but comes back the next morning. ps thanks for all the info on the inj buzz flash. it worked great.

There are 2 ways you can attack the ICP sensor. I prefer to remove them from underneath if only the sensor needs replacing, but in most cases the sensor will have leaked and damaged the wiring. In that case, drain out a few liters of coolant and remove the degas bottle and FICM. With those removed, the sensor can be reached with a 1 1/16" crows foot, an extension and ratchet. Wear gloves that will keep you from bashing your knuckles when it breaks free because they are REALLY tight. It is in a really tight spot, but be patient and you can get it. To reinstall the sensor, I put a piece of hose over it to try to manuever it into place because there is really not that much room for getting you hands in there. And don't forget, if the sensor has leaked oil into the wiring, the pigtail will need to be replaced.
