Its almost time

To start fishing. As soon as it warms up a little I'll be hitting the lakes. I love catching crappie. Who else likes to fish.

I love to fish, but I like to fish for gulf snapper, something I haven't been able to do when I moved up here. I think it's been 13 yrs since I fished, mainly because when I go back home it's for a horse show, so I'm trying to make money, no time for the fun stuff.

Fishing is fishing to me. I go for bass crappie & bream. I try to fill my freezer with crappie every spring. I'll throw a fishfry for the chapter when I catch enough fish.

I miss the gulf too. I grew up in La. I went red snapper fishing every chance I got when I lived there. I catch & release the bass but I keep the bream & crappie

I have always figured that Arkabutla was somewhat fished out. I thought Lakeview was really fished out! I've "heard" that most of the fishing boats going to Tunica never get out of the casino parking lots.

Man Glenn someone sure told you wrong. Arklabutla is full of big crappie. I catch good crappie in Lakeview too. I've only been to the casinos once in my life & that was for the food. I don't gamble. Tunica has good fishing too. I haven't been there in a couple of yrs due to the distance. It takes about a hr& a half to get there. I'll be hitting the lakes by mid March. I'll give a fishing report then for everyone. My son is already bugging me about going.

Another rub with Arkabutla is that it is a flood control reserivor. The water level flucuates a lot in spring trying to keep the delta dry during the spring planting season. I hear of some good fishing in all the north MS lakes, but the spring spawn is hard to hit because of water levels.

Your right about Arklabutla water levels. I watch the levels in the paper plus my job sends me around the lake about once a wk. A wet yr like we are having now is usually a good one for fishing. I fished Arklabutla a lot when I lived in Horn Lake. I fish Lakeview the most now. Its only 30 minutes from my house & I know where the crappie spawn there. The best places on Lakeview are hard to fish because of moss but the fish are there. I put 12 gallon jugs of crappie filets in my freezer last yr that I caught on Lakeview. I hear people saying Lakeview is fished out too. I don't believe it.
