Well, upon e-baying it up as always... I came across a diamond in the rough. I found 1984 Chevy K10 stepside less than 2 hours from my house for only $1700. I contacted the guy... learned that it had a brand new 350 in it with less than 130 miles on the clock. I decided to buy it, so I took my truck over there and we (my dad and I) drove it home. Well, upon further investigation... my mechanic found a number of things that needed to be fixed... one glaring problem was that the rear diff (exhaust vent broken off) was full of nothing but muddy water... needless to say, it was impressive that we made it home without locking the rear axle up. Aside from the 10 or so problems that are currently being fixed, my mechanic offered me $7000 for the truck in it's current state. The exterior is rough in terms of paint... but new engine, new 8" lift with MT tires, new exhaust, rare bodystyle... I would immediately make $5300 on the deal, but he really knows his stuff... he exclusively collects and restores Ford trucks from 60-66. He wants this truck and offered me that, but since he did... I'm keeping it because obviously it's worth something for him to do that. It is a stepside and he said in '84 only about 200 of them were made. Anyways, it is a nice addition to my truck and is now my toy.... I decided to keep my SD on the road now instad of off. Anyways, I'll post pics once I get it back....
You obviously appreciate classic vehicles and aren't narrow minded like some people. You've found a nice vehicle for a relative low price and you should definitely fix it up and keep it.
Hey Art,
I was actually talking about this entier thread, I somehow posted it twice by clicking the submit button once... there is another one a couple threads down so if you could remove this thread I'd appreciate it!! Yeah it is a chebby.. that's why I'm gonna beat it all to heck and back! My Ford just looks to dang good
Sounds like a great deal. Just wondering how long it was on e-bay. Seems to me some people out there, have to know what it is worth. Thats what I call being in the right place at the right time. Enjoy your new toy.
Because it's a chevy aside, that would be a nice turn a round on profit, I believe I would of been tempted to let it go. A vehicle is only worth as much as how bad someone wants it. Your mechanic could be one in a million willing to give that for it. However, if you really like the truck, it's not about the money, it's about the enjoyment you'll get from it.
The mech is a family friend and is quite popular in Birmingham for his work... he knows a gem when he sees one, which makes me think I made a good decision in picking it up. It was on eBay for 7 days, and no one bought it so I contacted the seller and learned a bit more about the truck. It is indeed very rare!! All it is missing a good paint job... my mech said if I fixed it nicely and took the lift off and put road tires on it I could easily sell it for $12,500 + and that was what he would intend on doing. He has one 63 F-series pickup that auctioned for $56,000. It was a piece of work!!
"Ooooo", I see your from Alabama, the place where vehicles don't rust!!!! I take this truck is a 4x4, is it an auto or manual tranny, also what color is it? If you end up painting it, would you go with the original color?
