Hey guys. I found a guy here in Phoenix That has a 05 SD wrecked truck , with the V10 3 valve VIN# Y > He wants 3000 for the motor 39,000 mi. No damage to the motor. My question is I have an 05 Excursion with the V10 2 valve motor can I swap in this motor and use my stock electronics or do I need to purchase the motor and electronics off the SD. Or is this project even worth doing. My buddy has the Y code V10 and it seems much more powerful than mine. Thanks for your help
I held off buying my V10 because I was waiting for the 3 valve engine to come out....more power, better mpg (not a lot), more efficient exhaust, etc., etc.
It's been over a year since I read all the "stuff", but I am sure (though I am not a Ford tech), that you would need everything that is a part of the 3 valve system....I believe that would also include the transmission, as the computer that controls the engine also controls parts of the tranny...then, is the drive shaft different and does it mate to the rear end properly, and on and on and on!?!?!
I almost think that it might be easier to put your body on the 3 valve frame (not practicval if the truck was wrecked) than to pull all the "stuff" fromthe truck and install it in your vehicle and then try to make it all work together.
Thanks I kinda figured it probably be more than a motor swap envolved. Mabe I should just invest into a supercharger. I forgot that they also have the tourqeshift tranny , which will probably leed into cutting drivelines and such thanks for the info
Yea, It sounds like one big headache for more horses. I'll try a gear swap first to 4:88. Im running 37in tires and the 3:73 gears make it a bit of a slug. I got prices for a supercharger from Kenne Bell and Procharger. But that was just off their websites never talked to a real person. I will call them to see if they are still available. with my luck lately probably not. ( 2 slashed tires, hose popped off tranny cooler burned clutches in tranny. tow truck driver hooked up to my rear leaf springs and jacked them all up. ) and now mabe no supercharger. But every time I climb into my EX i still get a smile on my ugly mug.
The super chargers for the v10 were made by Keene Bell and Whipple. Vortech and Procharger never made any. News we got last year was both companies, Bell and Whipple have discontinued makeing these kits, But if they have any kits left in stock you would have to call about that.
As to power level increases. this is the way to go safely. A 8 to 10 pound boost should give you more then enough of a level to encrease the size of your bseg .
Here are a couple that I was looking at ,

I called them and they have both in stock. But they could not tell me why it will not fit a 2005 v10 2 valve. does any one here know. The guy said it would most likely work .

No I think I will take it to a speed shop close by my home. It says about 12hours to install. With this kind of a project I think I should leave it to the pro's to do. But i thought about it after they told me $65 x 12hr. Now all I need is my tax money to get here. Fly-n-Hi off road is next door to them, Im going to see if the can do the gear swap also, I was thinking of 4:88 but I thought about it IM going to go with 4:56 Instead.
We have had several employies down sick including captchas again. Who so every knows we just brought him back home last night from a hospital in New York City more surgery on his spine. And removal of the radioactive implants from the cancer treatments.
Yes we do have v10 tuners from Super Chips,Diablo, And 2 other proracer type programs that will allow you to write your own tunes and reflash your pcm from a laptop. yes we can do a custom tuned sct excalibrator 2 for you. But this is really hit and miss as we tune for New Jersey and know they will not work as well in AZ. for that we always ask the customer to log into www.sctflash.com Input your zip code and find a dealer nearby your home who has a in house dyno and let him write that very fine working sct tune for you properly. Boxed tuners what we have found working best so far is the diablo unit as for the best seat of your pants dyno feel you would want and look for.
As to gears sit down with your shop and work out the correct set/ratio before you do anything. So they return you to as close as possible with larger tires. Stock tire sizes Fredvon4 has always been correct about this motor needing the 4:30's for around 95% of useages we all give the wonderfull/smooth v10.
Regearing is not rocket sience. But getting what you need. Due to the cost of the project is a must do. Good luck with your project!
