Defroster Problem

When I was working on the tailgate window switch, apparently I messed up the vac lines that operate the defroster, vent, floor and mix vents.

All of them seem to work except for the defroster. I've checked, and it looks like everything is hooked up.

What should I check? It did work before.

I have an 83 Bronco XLT.

Feeding my 9 mile a gallon habit.

Remove the glovebox (you'll need a stubby phillips screwdriver - you don't have to remove the door) and look inside the dash for the defrost vacuum motor. Then trace its hose (by color) back to the mode select switch and look for breaks. If you have a MityVac, you can test the line & motor.

While you have the glovebox out, look on your firewall for a CB antenna combiner. It would be close to the R A-pillar near the windshield.

Just wondering why the previous poster told him to look for the cb antenna combiner. Also, is this something Broncos have, and if I put in a cb I can use the regular antenna?

I'll tear in there and look. I know it has to be something that I disconnected because it worked before.

My Bronco came with 2 antennas. One for CB one for radio.

HAM radio is superior, but who wants to be that geeky

Feeding my 9 mile a gallon habit. Just kidding. I actually want to get "into" HAM, just haven't had time.

ONe other question. The flap that closes the heater compartment off from the rest of the vent system is stuck open. I tried moving it with my hand and it won't move. What gives?

The CB combiner was installed in the regular antenna cable on trucks with the factory CB option. It's rare, but I've found it in 2 Broncos in junkyards. It was merely curiosity that made me ask about it.

Your blend door has probably broken off its hinge & gotten cocked inside the duct. Or it could be that the cable broke inside its sleeve & has jammed the door.
