I have installed them before but of course the dealor said there are many things that need to be installed and or bypassed in order to install an auto start. They also mentioned that my $600.00 alarm system will need to be replaced. I'm not sure of the brand but I can't believe the alarm won't be compadable with an autostart. Thanks in advance.
Well first, the remote start would need to interact with the pats system. You don’t need to get rid of your alarm, but you do need to set it up so the remote start doesn’t trigger the alarm and the alarm doesn’t keep the remote start from starting the truck.
Chances are you have a DEI (Directed Electronics Inc.) alarm. The make Viper, Clifford, Python etc alarms. If you have a 600 dollar alarm you probably have one of their top of the line alarms (IE 790XV). You should only need the alarm and a 555U (you will lose a key) or a 556s/556sw.
If it is a DEI alarm, their main units are lifetime warrantied, so take it back to the place you bought it from and get a new one before you install it. Their accessories are not lifetime warrantied, they are only a year (remotes, window rollups etc).
