Marvel Mystery Oil would be a better bet or even Diesel fuel.

I soaked my 289 for about a week with ATF, but that was only because I didn't have any Marvel Mystrey oil handy.
Don't be in a hurry. Try spraying a penetrating oil like PB Blaster or Kano Kroil in there and let it do it's thing for a week or two. Drain and change the crank case oil afterward and then shoot a little ATF in the plug hole. Very little. I started my 289 after 21 years in a barn and a Coast Guard helocopter circled the house for 10 minutes thinking it was on fire!
Good Luck!

I'm in the same boat as you. My 54 sat for years, I soaked the cylinders for a week, poured marvel mystery oil over the valve train to. I ended up bending push rods because of stuck valves so be careful! it's wise to do it by hand, I was a moron and thew the juice to it and now I might have ruined a 67K mile motor

Welcome to the board. I would agree Marvel is the best way to go for a least 3 weeks then turn it by hand..........RUSTY
