back hatch

I have a busted plastic sleeve for the back gate, where it hitches onto the door. Can I buy those for my 86 B II and what tool do I need to get the bar off that they come on, it's a star like shape and wear do I but them ...Thanks

There are only 3 places I know to get these, including the bolts: Dealership, junkyard, and LMC Truck

You can remove the bolts with a Torx bit, I forget which size it is. You can also make the sleeves out of thin-walled pvc in a pinch.

Check the "Help" isle at your local auto parts store. My son manages a parts store for a national chain and was able to get these for my 88. He can't remember but I think he was able to get new sleeves. Pretty sure replacement complete assemblies are available also.

The "help" sleeves are available, but the way the striker bolt and washer are put
together, it is very difficult to put them on. They have a perfect match for the
hatch striker bolt, and the auto parts store should also have torx sockets to get
them off and on.

I got some from Advanced Auto in the Help section. I cut mine so that I could just simply slip them over the post. A year later and they are still on there and holding up fine.

NAPA may be a good source for help and I know RockAuto.com can supply you with these parts.
