Cutting off the Muffler

Hey All

I was wondering if cutting off the muffler is gonna do any harm? kinda put a couplre nice kinks in the tail pipe tonight playing on some rocks and small logs, and I would like a louder rumble and cant afford to get flowmasters done till next month. Is there anything i need to do besides cut above the muffler? and is this gonna cost me any performance?

thanks

Cutting off the Muffler

It will not cost you any performance, but in a Bronco I would be worried about carbon monoxide. Just make sure that your exhasust exits to the side of the body

Cutting off the Muffler

I've always heard that going completely without a muffler sounds like crap. True or no?

Cutting off the Muffler

I have seen and heard a few ford trucks and Broncos with out muffler's and it sounds ghetto to me. But then again, some people like the way it sounds and that is kewl for them. I just want to be able to hear my radio and have a conversation while driving. , so I will leave my 2 cats and muffler on.

cutting off muffler

I cut off my muffler, the problem I came into is that the cat started knocking on the tranny skid plate. To cure this I had a piece of pipe welded on long enough to reach the old hanger. Now it dumps out just under the rear seat and I haven.t had any problems. I doesn't sound bad either, but now I'm getting my true duals finished.

I ran my 83 with the duels exiting out under the truck. Mainly cause I had too cut the mufflers and tailpipes out. Cause I blew the mufflers up. It's a long story.
I think it sounds cool, cause it has that race engine sound, and it got everyones attention. I finally had too put cherry bombs on it cause my dad got tired of being woke up when I came home late on weekend nights.

Sounds ok...Loud inside! I cut my muffler off so I could check my cat and prepare for flowmaster muffler install.

I've been running like that for about 3 weeks now because i have no time to finish it... My old muffler is still hanging for now, so half of the noise is muffled and half is not. Not bad sound...and no problems otherwise.

I cut off the rear cat and the muffler on mine. I went with 2.25 dia tube from the 1st cat to just behind the xfer case skid plate with the rear o2 sensor reinstalled. It then splits to duals out the rear. The size tips you use make a huge difference it the tone you will get. Mine are 3 in dia and 22 in long and give a smooth tone to the exhaust. The first tips I had on were 12 in and they had a real choppy sound to them. I love the sound of mine the way it is set up. The only change I would make is to have the exhaust exit from the sides instead of the rear because when I drop the back glass exhaust fumes roll in going down the road.

What are yall using to cut the mufflers out? A torch or just a cutting wheel on a die grinder? Or a hacksaw?
