Why 87-96?
Why 87-96?
Why are Ford trucks 87-96 lumped together in this forum? Aren't there two different body styles in there? I went to the salvage yard the other day to get one of them rubber-topped-adjustable-thingamajigs that set the height of the hood. There is one under each front corner of the hood and you screw the rubber up or down to set the hood height. Anyway, the salvage yard guy gave me some older trucks to pick from (mine is a 92) and that thingamajib wasn't the same. Whassup with that?

For more information on truck differences and to answer your question about the 87-96 forum look at these two Threads.

same psom and cluster in the f250 and up trucks for 97.
every year some things change.
like in 96 obd II is in all trucks but before it was in some.
also improvements in auto trans, option packages etc changed during these years.

Because most all the things that count are same from 87 up . Drive train , same fuel injection ,axles , wiring (for the most part) . Dash and rubber bumpers are trivial.Should the 94 up be separate becuase of air bag and MAF. Or the 96 up trucks some are OBOII and some not . You'll have odd parts in anything my old F150 had 6 different ujoints for rear shaft.
then you will also run into the odd ball
my 96 e350 351 e4od
speed density and obd1

80-86 were primarily carbed engines tho... the 86 302 was EFI tho (or was it the 351? -help- ) But yes, the cab was the same, doors and bed interchange but were slightly different. Manual trannies could be interchanged, but harder to do the autos due to electronic controls on the 87 and laters. Axles (except for ABS/RAB) functions, rims, and alot of other stuff...
I used to be a big 80-86 fan, but the EFI won me over!... and oh ya, the headlights get alot brighter starting in '87, BUT to each their own... all good trucks in my opinion.

the differences between 87-91 and 92-96 are more cosmetic than mechanical i would say. front clips are different in appearance but can be interchanged from one style to another. cabs are the same just different on the interior. doorpanels, dash, steering column.
