has anyone tried to remove the rear panels to gain access to the horrible factory speakers? i'm upgrading and didn't want to break anything, so if anyone know's the trick please share.
I removed my rear panel two rears ago and I remember that it was a PINA. You had to remove all the surround to the rear door / side windows, then remove the plastic piece in from the of the third row as well as the seatbelts for the second row. Then it will pop off and lift off. Just take it slow and nothing should break. Sometimes when everything goes back together the metal clips will get bent and not hold. If that happens you just have to straighten them up with a needle nose and screw driver. What are you replacing you speakers with, I went with Focal Utopia BE's. You wont find anything more clear but they are kinda expensive, over $1800 a pair.
HOLY CRAP!!! $1800 a pair. Geesh they'd better be clear. They'd better come with a solid gold wire and a butler... lol. I'm sorry there isn't any car speaker that is worth that kinda money. That's just my opinion. I love good clear sound but not that much... haha
shadowdd, which speakers did you replace with the focal sets? what else do you have for amps/speakers? just curious because usually people that have ultra high end stereo/video are the only ones that will spend that kind of $$$$. and you will never even hear the 3rd set anyway.

My entire system is an alpine F1 status system with 7.1 surround. I actually replaced all three sets with focals and then custom made a center channel from focal. The entire truck was gutted to install everything along with a few layers of sound dampening material. We run 5 screens, a dvd changer, a dvd player, cd changer, dolby digital / thx processor, navigation, xm radio, and hd radio. My subs are all JL Audio. All cabling is from monster cable. Then we installed a remote start with GPS tracking and internet connectivity. Currently we are looking at a Speed Ray low profile tracking sat for Direct TV. We drive rought 75,000 to 100,000 miles a year so we are in the truck all the time. Actually, we have a timer on the nav unit that show how much the truck is running, driving, and stuck in traffic: that gets kinda depressing.

Remove the third row seat, remove the spare tire, that will give you the room you need to move around in. Remove the sill plate (molding) that goes from left to right by the feet of the third row passengers. Remove the little storage bin on the drives-side, third passenger, disconnect the wire. Then just start pulling on the panels, start for up by the doors. If you want to totally remove the panels, then you will need to unbolt the seatbelts, but if you just want room to replace the speaker, you'll have plenty of room doing it this way.
What are you replacing the stock with? I used Clarion plates, in all six spots. It's a very different EQ, I'm still getting used to them. I never realized how obnoxious the stock ones were in the mid-ranges.
i'm putting rockford fosgate in all locations along with 2 10" RF subs i will need to remove the seat belts to install dampening material, i can't stand all the vibration in the panels even with the stock speakers, i could only imagine how annoyed i would be adding more power and not fixing the vibrations. how does a company build a $50,000 vehicle and put the worst sounding speakers in it?
