I have a 03 F350 6.0L. Back in May I installed an AFE Stage 2 air intake. Right off the bat the truck did not run well. I called AFE and they asked if I had the voluntary reflash. I told them that I did and they sent me a new tube that runs from the air filter to the turbo with the mass air flow sensor in a new location.
Now it seems like every time I am accelerating to get on the freeway at around 50 mph the truck hickups like it is getting starved for air or something. It even gets worse when I am towing a trailer about 70mph and start going up a gradual incline. Then it keeps doing it repeatedly until I am no longer going up the incline. If it is a steap incline where I have to get on the gas, it will not do the hickuping. Also if I get on the gas during one of these hickuping fits, a big cloud of black smoke comes out of the exhaust.
Has anyone had this happen or know what might be causing it? It gets very irritating while towing a trailer.
Check your EGR. That's what mine did and it was the EGR. I disconnected it till I got it repalced and it was ok, but if your s is real bad the presure could open it. Try disconnecting it to see if the problem stops.
Where exatly is the EGR? I think there was a recall on my truck for an update on the EGR not to long ago. I thought they replaced it already. I may have to check again with the shop that did the service.
I started reading that thread awhile ago. I'm sure this has been answered somewhere. but has anyone experienced any long term/serious negative effects of disconnecting the EGR?
